NOTE: If there’s a need, Mac laptops can switch from integrated to dedicated graphics on the fly. What they cannot do is switch back to integrated graphics on the fly. To disable the 3D accelerator, you need to stop (CMD+Q) the 3D application.

1. Did you make any changes to your system (upgrades, software, hardware...that might account to the changes in power use)?

2. When did you notice the changes?

3. What is your battery health? (Coconut battery should be able to determine this, for free.)

4. Are you connected to any firewire or USB devices?

5. Are you online via software like Skype or the like?

6. When you use Utilities/Activity Monitor, what items are creating the highest spikes under CPU and Network? If you've never used this before, this is a really good time to familiarize yourself with this great utility.
