- Finally, if you are running Parallels and you find that your USB devices are being captured by Mac OS X but not your virtual guest OS, you can also go to the Devices menu, find the peripheral in question, and choose it to have Parallels wrest control from Mac OS X and hand it to your guest operating system.
- I have a similar problem. Only the Mac side of the disk partition reads the DVD, the Windows side creates a new drive on the computer containing the music tracks on the DVD but the program being run on Windows (Sony SonicStage) cannot read it.

Before using a new drive attached to your Mac, you may need to complete some basic configuration steps before the operating system recognizes the drive. The Mac operating system requires that you use a disk formatted using a compatible file system. You can use the built-in Disk Utility to format your drives to ensure compatibility. Your Mac can read the HFS+, NTFS, Fat32, exFAT and ext2 file systems. However, the NTFS file system doesn't allow you to save data from your Mac. Once you properly configure the new drive, you can use it to expand your company's storage and archiving capabilities.
General Troubleshooting
1.Connect your hard drive to your Mac. Make sure that you properly power on any external power supplies and properly connect the cables. Check for loose, damaged or worn cables and replace the cables, if necessary.
2.Click the background to bring up the Finder menu in the the top bar. Click 'Go' and select 'Utilities' from the drop-down list.
4.Select your hard drive, optical drive or other attached drive in the sidebar. Click the 'Mount' button. If the operating system already mounted the drive, an 'Unmount' button displays instead.
5.Click the 'First Aid' tab and select 'Repair Disk,' if available. You may need to restart your computer and follow the prompts to complete the repair.
6.Click the 'Finder' icon in the Dock and look for your drive in the sidebar. Restart 'Disk Utility' if you had to restart your computer to perform a repair and you still don't see your drive.

Select your hard drive from the list and click the 'Erase' tab. Click the 'Format' drop-down menu and select the format you want to use. Choose 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' to use the default Mac file system format. Click 'Erase' to format your hard drive.
If you need to back up any information on the drive, first connect your drive to a computer that does recognize the drive and transfer the data to a new storage device.
Computer Won't Boot
1.Press the power button on your computer and hold down 'Command-S'. Hold the keys down until you see white text appear on the screen.
2.Type '/sbin/fsck -fy' and press the 'Return' key to start a five-phase check that verifies various aspects of your hard drive's condition.
3.Type 'reboot' at the prompt after Fsck completes checking and attempting to repair your disk. Your Mac should now boot your hard disk.
Tips
- Certain non-bus powered drives using a technology such as Firewire may require an external power source to supply enough power to operate the drive.
- If your Mac still doesn't recognize your disk, consider taking your computer to a repair shop or replacing the hard disk.
